5GE vs. 5G: Which One is Better?

The term 5G is still in its emerging phase and hasn’t much evolved yet, and now another term has started floating around, i.e., 5GE.

5GE is a term for 5G Evolution. This term is used by AT&T, which puts it on some of its handsets. AT&T does this to indicate that the specific device is connected to its 5G Evolution network. The 5G is different from a 5GE network. The device showing 5G at the top and the device showing 5GE are running on entirely different networks, no matter if they are on the same location and use the AT&T network.

The term 5GE is simply a marketing term pushed by AT&T to describe 4G LTE-A; however, readers might be thinking about it as a new form of 5G network or maybe a more advanced version. Happens!

This term got introduced by AT&T in late 2018. It arose when the 5G discussion was on board. It undoubtedly gave users the feeling of satisfaction that they were using a 5G network form without even having a 5G device and without paying for this newly launched service.

However, these days, AT&T is genuinely running a 5G network, but users still sometimes see a 5GE icon on their 4G LTE Advanced network, despite the fact that AT&T agreed to stop advertising it.

5G is much faster than 5GE. The 5G networks tend to offer up to 500 Mbps of download speeds. They can offer a rigorous download speed of over 20 Gbps. The 5G networks have a latency of less than 1ms.

The 5GE networks can only offer speeds up to an average speed of 30 Mbps and peak download speed of only over 1 Gbps. These networks have a latency of less than 5ms.

The faster the speeds, the faster will be the downloads, and better will be your browsing experience. Also, you will have efficient live streams.

Availability & Compatibility

The 5GE network is already working up for a majority of the public. It can efficiently work with your existing devices as you don’t have to purchase a new device for it. The 5GE networks are available in a more significant number of areas compared to the 5G networks.

On the other hand, the 5G networks work only on the latest devices that have 5G compatibility. Also, its service is currently available in the selected cities only.

Final Verdict

5G is still an emerging network that is making its space in the cities on a slow pace. Currently, it is available only in the selected cities. To have run 5G, you will require a brand new 5G compatible handset.

However, the 5GE that is a 4G LTE+ network runs in most parts of the world, and it can be accessed on your existing handsets very easily.
