How to Enable or Disable Password Monitor on MS Edge?

MS Edge was launched to replace the services of Internet Explorer as it can run faster than Internet Explorer and has advanced features. There is an exciting feature provided by Microsoft Edge. It is the “Password Monitor.” This Password Monitor in MS Edge informs the user about weak and compromised passwords. This service currently exists in the Canary and Dev editions of Microsoft Edge.

Password Manager works something like Firefox’s Lockwise Password Manager. The feature enables the consumers to check and analyze the strength of passwords and thus helps them to avoid suspicious attacks.

Here is how to turn on and off the Password Monitor on MS Edge with ease:

Activating and Deactivating Password Manager via Manage Profile Settings

  • At the start, launch the Edge browser on your device by double-tapping the icon situated at the taskbar.
  • Navigate to the browser’s home-screen and then hit the People icon there situated just at the uppermost right-hand side edge of your device.
  • Once the options listing shows up on your device’s screen, tap the link related to the option “manage profile settings.”
  • When the profile settings page displays on your device in a separate section, then press the tab “Passwords.”
  • Wait for the following page to load on your screen. Once it gets loaded on your device successfully, toggle the slide bar to ON that is situated just beside the option “Show Alerts when passwords are found in an online leak.”
  • Now, reboot the device for the changes to save. After some time, you will get the feature enabled on your machine.
  • You can also modify the browser’s settings to switch on the feature. To do so, follow the next procedure.

Using MS Edge Settings

  • First of all, you have to open the Edge browser on your device and then tap the hotkeys: Alt + F.
  • You may tap the three-dotted icon there related to the “Settings and More” section situated at the uppermost right-hand side section of your window.
  • Once the options listing appears on your page, then find and tap the Settings icon.
  • On the next page, hit the Profiles tab by navigating the left-hand side section.
  • Navigate to the right-hand side panel and then press the Passwords tab.
  • Wait for the complete page to load on your screen. Once it successfully loads on your machine, slide the button “Show alerts when the passcode is found in an online leak” to ON.
  • Now, you are all set. This procedure will activate the Password Monitor in MS Edge browser.

Note: Users can quickly launch the Password Manager page directly on their devices by entering the path into the address section:

“edge://_settings-passwords_password_Monitor//”

  • Then, press the Enter button to execute the path.

Disabling Password Monitor on Microsoft Edge Browser

  • First of all, open Microsoft Edge web-browser on your device and then tap the three-dotted “Settings and More” icon. Then, tap the Settings option there.
  • Hit the Profiles tab located at the left side panel.
  • When you see the Profile Settings on your device, move towards the right-hand side section.
  • Tap the Passwords option located there.
  • On the next page, go to the option “Show alerts when passwords are found in an online leak.”
  • Now, toggle your slider to off, and this move will deactivate the Password Monitor on MS Edge.

Conclusion

Password Manager on Microsoft Edge works just like Lockwise Password Manager of Firefox. It is the protection tool provided in MS Edge’s Canary and Dev editions. It helps the user to detect and find the weak and compromised passwords. If the Password Monitor is deactivated by default, then you should activate it to make your password stronger.
