Thanks to Kilo Kish, the Look of Merch Is About to Get Aggy

Kilo Kish is a true Renaissance woman. Over the past year or so, she’s released an EP; exhibited a multimedia installation combining film, performance, and immersive soundscapes at HVW8 gallery in Los Angeles; and also codirected several of her own music videos.

Now, she’s expanding her artistic repertoire even further. Just yesterday, Kish revealed a new web store, The Aggy Sweets Shop, with a line of merch called The Sweets Collection. It includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, stickers, and a tote bag, all of which feature the namesake character that she created three years ago. “I made detailed pillows at my house out of pom-poms—a black girl with dark skin and two Afro puffs,” she says of Aggy’s initial form.

The character is inspired by her background in textile design and her love of vintage Liberty London prints, the legendary Dutch illustrator Dick Bruna, and characters like Madeline and Pippi Longstocking. You can get a sense for these influences in the petite character she’s created—the lines are simple like Bruna’s beloved rabbit Miffy, and Aggy wears a red dress with a white collar, much like Madeline does.

She displayed a life-size doll from the very same materials alongside gouache paintings for an art show with photographer Silke Labson and her artist sister Blanda in 2015. It wasn’t until she took a trip to Tokyo that same year that the idea for Aggy began to take shape. “Every time I go to Tokyo, I get little makeup bags and tees and wear them when I go out. People always compliment me on the patterned lunch bags and kiddish purses I usually wear, so I wanted to try out some accessories,” she says.

Those first experiments would eventually led to a booth at ComplexCon last month, where she debuted a collection of graphic tees. And you can now get a piece of Aggy on her new online store. There are plenty of fun new projects in Kish’s pipeline besides, including a forthcoming collaboration with Los Angeles–based streetwear brand Bricks & Wood. “The applications of developing a character are endless, which is exciting for me,” she says. “I look forward to exploring it conceptually and bringing her more and more to life.”  Source from: abendkleider online kaufenБез названия
